Baby Boomer Beatles Week

Now that I've recovered from the shock of the deaths of Isaac Hayes and Bernie Mac, I'm back with my favorite baby boomer jams.

This week is dedicated to The Beatles. Ever since I saw them on the Ed Sullivan Show back in 1964 (I think), I was a fan. What I admired and respected about the group from Liverpool is they never hid the fact that their music was greatly influenced by the Rhythm and Blues music they heard in the United States. Many white artists in this country stole the music originally made by black artists, claimed it as their own and went on to make millions.

The Beatles are forever etched in music history. The songs I post this week are in no particular order of how I like them, although this song ranks in my favorite top three.

What is your favorite Beatles song?

I love the Beatles. Here are some of my fave Beatles songs:

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
Twist and Shout
Hey Jude
Eleanor Rigby
Yellow Submarine
Yesterday
Here Comes the Sun...

I could go on and on!

Honestly, it would be impossible to choose just one! So many of the Beatles' songs are intertwined with memories from my life.

Like Yellow Submarine - which my husband used to sing with his mother as a young child and which he passed on to our children.

Gun to the head, have to make a choice - it would have to be "When I'm 64"

Yup, these were my boys back in the day!

My favorites? I'd have to go with:

When I'm 64
Lovely Rita (Meter Maid)
Eleanor Rigby
Hey Jude
Day Tripper
Dr. Robert
Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da
Good Day Sunshine
Paperback Writer
And Your Bird Can Sing
Eight Days A Week
Blackbird
Get Back
Honey Pie
Martha My Dear
Magical Mystery Tour
The Long and Winding Road

These are the ones that got worn out on my Beatles LPs!

My favorite album of theirs? Rubber Soul.

Your right on target here!!!! They started me on a 40+ year journey of playing in bands! I am still amazed at how their music fits into any decade and how many teenagers today love their music like it was just released. My daughter, who is 19 has many friends that are starting to play in bands and love the Beatles. There is not enough I can say, nor any particular songs that I like best as they are all amazing in so many ways. If you have ever heard Eric Clapton's tribute to George Harrison album... it is fantastic.

black domestic goddess,

I forgot about Here Comes the Sun. Thanks for the reminder! Ritchie Havens also sang it too but I liked the Beatles version better.

Patrysha,

When I'm 64 is another one I forgot as well. They just had SO MANY SONGS to love! It really is impossible to pick just one---or two for that matter. Thanks for stopping by and posting on my blog.

Pop Art Diva,

You've got some jams on your list that are definitely going to show up on mine before the week is up!

You're right David. The Beatles music will live on forever--unlike much of the crap we hear today.
